Idaho: Gun Owner Credit Card Privacy Bill Going to Governor

Gun Rights

Today, the Senate voted 34-1 to pass House Bill 295, to prohibit payment processors from requiring the use of a firearms-specific MCC to distinguish purchases at a firearms retailer from a general merchandise retailer or a sporting goods retailer, and prohibit the misuse of payment card processing systems to surveil, report, or disclose these legal transactions. It now goes to Governor Brad Little’s desk for his signature. Please click here to ask Gov. Little to sign HB 295 into law.

NRA thanks all the lawmakers who worked hard to make sure Idaho promptly addresses this emerging threat to Second Amendment rights. This is in response to the MCC rule and the potential tracking of firearm purchases. Since the federal government is prohibited by law from creating and maintaining a registry of gun owners, anti-gun radicals have been attempting to outsource this effort to the private financial sector.
