Louisiana: Legislature Adjourned from the 2023 Session

Gun Rights

Last night, the Louisiana Legislature adjourned sine die from its 2023 legislative session. We are pleased to report that all anti-gun bills introduced were effectively halted. Through the support and dedication of NRA members and Second Amendment supporters, along with our diligent advocacy efforts, these bills did not progress in the legislative process and were ultimately defeated. Additionally, several pro-gun bills were successfully passed during this legislative session.

The constitutional carry bill, HB 131, did not reach its intended outcome. The bill was voluntarily deferred in the Senate due to the committee’s attempt to introduce problematic amendments that would have compromised the bill’s purpose. While we are disappointed, our fight for constitutional carry is far from over. We will continue working tirelessly to advance this vital legislation.

The NRA thanks the lawmakers who courageously stood against new gun control measures and defended Second Amendment freedom. The NRA we will return to Baton Rouge for the next legislative session in 2024 to continue fighting for Second Amendment rights.
