NRA doesn’t take sides in GOP gubernatorial primary, endorses Grossman for Senate

The National Rifle Association declined to endorse a candidate in the Republican gubernatorial primary, giving Phil Rizzo and Hirsh Singh A grades and Jack Ciattarelli a B.

The NRA has endorsed former Atlantic County Freeholder Seth Grossman for State Senate in the 2nd district Republican primary.

Grossman received an A grade from the NRA, while his primary opponent, former Assemblyman Vince Polistina (R-Egg Harbor Township) received an F.

Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso (R-Holmdel), who is mounting an off the line re-election bid in the 13th district after losing the support of the Monmouth County Republican organization, has the backing of the NRA.  DiMaso got an A- grade; her opponent, Holmdel Board of Education President Vicky Flynn, did not complete her survey.

In the 26th district Assembly race, the NRA endorsed both incumbents: Jay Webber (R-Morris Plains) and BettyLou DeCroce (R-Parsippany).  Both earned A grades; so did challengers Christian Barranco and Tom Mastrangelo.

The NRA has also endorsed State Sen. Steve Oroho (R-Franklin) for re-election to a fifth term.  Oroho also received an A grade.  He faces Andover Regional School Board member Dan Cruz in 24th district GOP primary. Cruz did not respond to the NRA questionnaire.

Six other Republican incumbents also won NRA endorsements in contested primaries: Greg McGuckin (R-Toms River)  and John Catalano (R-Brick) in the 10th; Ronald Dancer (R-Plumsted) and Robert Clifton (R-Matawan) in the 12th; Ned Thomson (R-Wall) in the 30th; and Bob Auth (R-Old Tappan) in the 39th.
