KATHLEEN ‘KATHY’ FALER
Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Kiniry Faler, a longtime resident of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on August 6, 2023 at the age of 77. She was a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, born on September 24, 1945. Kathy was preceded in death by her dedicated husband of 56 years, Charles “Pete” Betro Faler Jr.; one son, David Cary Faler; her parents, John Michael Kiniry Sr. and Lillian Davis Kiniry; and siblings, John Michael Kiniry Jr. (Nancy), Jeanne Kegan, Stephen Kiniry, and Michael Kiniry (Kim).
Kathy leaves behind, to cherish her memory, two daughters, Michelle Faler Barbry and Lisa Faler Galey (Jason); six grandchildren, Morgan Barbry, Cecilia Barbry, Lillian Barbry, Claire Barbry, Kathleen “Kate” Galey, and Jason Galey Jr.; three siblings, Maryrose Kramer (Dave), David Kiniry (Victoria), and Lillian Eberstein (Mark); and a host of extended family members and friends.
Kathy retired after many years of dedicated service as a deputy clerk with the Slidell City Court. She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Kathy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Slidell. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Kathy will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Deacon Pete, in St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery following services. ELIZABETH ‘BETTY’ VERZWYVELT
Elizabeth “Betty” Willoughby Verzwyvelt , a resident of Slidell, Louisiana for 58 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the age of 86.
She was a native of Tabor City, North Carolina, born on February 12, 1937. Betty was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 61 years, Elster Paul Verzwyvelt; her beloved son, Gary Paul Verzwyvelt (Annie Fry Verzwyvelt); her parents, Grace Hearn Hatch and Benny Bruce Willoughby; and her siblings, Benny Bruce Willoughby Jr. and Jean Willoughby Laughlin.
Betty leaves behind, to cherish her memory, three children, Liz Verzwyvelt Wiggins, Brent Patrick Verzwyvelt (Kim Blagrave Verzwyvelt), and Andy Verzwyvelt Hodson; 10 grandchildren, Kate Messer, Bryce Haddad, John Paul Verzwyvelt, Eric Verzwyvelt, Haley Haddad, Hannah Haddad, Catherine Hodson, Christina Hodson, Madison Fredrickson, and Abby Verzwyvelt; one great-granddaughter, Lily Anne Messer; and a host of extended family members and friends.
“Mama V”, as she was so fondly known, loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. As the matriarch of the family, next to God, she made her family the center of her life. All holidays, special events, and Sunday gatherings were celebrated in her home until the day she passed. One can only imagine having someone in their life so Godly, inspiring, impactful, selfless, and wise in all areas of life. At age 84, she published Pearls of Wisdom, a collection of recommendations that are intended to inspire the reader to grow closer to their Creator. Betty’s focus throughout her life was to serve the Lord and others. She had an unwavering faith and looked forward to spending eternity with Christ. As a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church of Slidell, she cultivated her faith by continuous study of the Bible and in her later years, continued the same practices at Grace Memorial Church of Slidell.
Betty graduated with honors from Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette with a double major in Secondary Education/English and Physical Education. She also went on to earn a Masters+30 from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. As a passionate English teacher at Slidell High School and an innovative teacher and administrator at Calvary Baptist School, she touched the hearts of countless children of all ages. She was respected and admired by both students and colleagues for her devotion to education. Betty also remained active in the community and was a member of the St. Tammany Parish School Board, Delta Kappa Gamma, Woman’s Missionary Union, and an avid Mahjong player.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Slidell. A funeral service will begin at noon. Betty will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery following services.

DONALD ‘DON’ CARL FOIL
Donald “Don” Carl Foil, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on August 8, 2023, at the age of 76. He was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana on October 22, 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents, E.E. “Pinkie” Foil and Mercedes “Deas” Chastant Foil and infant niece, Shelly Hatfield.
Don is survived by his brother, Edward E. Foil Jr. (Brenda) of Aurora, Colorado; his sister, Clara Foil Hatfield (George); nieces, Felcia Foil and Maggie Hatfield; nephew, Mark Hatfield; and great-nephews, Teague and Declan Foil.
Don graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in business. He worked as a Louisiana Legislative Auditor for many years before taking the Chief Accountant position at the St. Tammany Parish School Board. As a Certified Government Financial Manager, he was awarded many honors for his financial reporting skills, including the President’s Award for Financial Reporting.
Don bravely served in the Louisiana National Guard and the United States Army. While in the Army, he was stationed in Korea during the Korean DMZ Conflict (also known as the Second Korean War) of 1966 -1969. After being honorably discharged and returning to civilian life, Don decided to continue serving his country by enlisting in the United States Coast Guard Reserve. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and received numerous awards during his 23 years of service. He received the Louisiana Military Personnel of the Year Award and was a charter member of Sea-Keepers. Don was a member of American Legion Post #0185, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5735, and the National Rifle Association. He was a collector of World War I & II memorabilia and enjoyed attending various gun and military shows, looking for that perfect item to add to his collection.
Don loved sports, especially Slidell High School sports. He volunteered for many years and was always ready to assist the coaching staff, regardless of the sport or the needed task. “Coach Don” was always there to encourage and teach the athletes to do their best. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Audubon Funeral Home in Slidell. JAMES NICHOLAS DAVIS
James Nicholas Davis, age 74, of Pearl River, LA, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, on Sunday, August 13, 2023.
Davis was a loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather who enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his grandson. He will be missed greatly. Davis is survived by his wife Cynthia Davis, his daughter Crystal Davis, his Grandson Christopher Allen Davis, and his sisters Donna Lambert and Dianne Warren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ruffin and Esmerelda Davis, and his siblings; Ruffin “Butch” Davis, Jr., Charlene Cedotal, and Lorraine “Doddie” Costello.

Raymond Clifford Morgan, Sr., age 87, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023.
A native of New Orleans, he served in the U.S. Army and worked professionally as a custom iron fabricator with Holzer Sheet Metal Works for 45 years.
He was a western movie enthusiast, a talented artist, handyman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
David Allen Skevington, age 79, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023.
Born in Fort Wayne, IN, he earned an Electrical Engineering degree, then a Master’s in Public Policy from Tulane. He retired from the New Orleans Police Department and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Alpha Tau Omega.
He was a parishioner of St. Luke Catholic Church and in his spare time, enjoyed gardening and carpentry.
Steven Anthony Larsen, age 71, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
A native of New Orleans, he attended Abramson High School and worked at Lesson Chevrolet until his retirement.
He was a skilled handman and loved classic cars.

Charles Edward Buras, age 71, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023.
A native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of Slidell, he grew up in Marrero before moving to St. Bernard Parish.
He worked for Deluxe Check Printers until 1994, then joined the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office where he served 22 years, retiring as captain.
He was a huge car enthusiast, especially his red Corvette, and was a member of the Northshore Corvette Club, frequently attending Cruisin’ on the Coast.
Jacqueline Lloyd Lalley, age 86, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023.
A native of Birmingham, AL, she retired from Slidell Memorial Hospital where she worked in the Physical Therapy Department for 20 years.
In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling and antiquing.
Patricia George Mahaffey, age 92, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023.
Born in New Orleans, she moved to Slidell in 1995 and served as a bank officer for many years with Whitney Bank.
She was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister.
One of her proudest moments was for she and her sisters to attend Mass at every Catholic Church in the Archdiocese, which spanned 20 years.
